Search Engine Marketing for Packers & Movers

Last updated: October 16, 2026 Digiintern Technologies Private Limited

Google Ads for movers is an open auction against aggregators and every other mover in your city. A search like “packers and movers in gurgaon” can cost a fair amount per click, and the person clicking is usually comparing three or four companies at once. The mover who wins is the one whose ad matches the exact route and whose phone gets answered on the second ring.

What goes wrong is rarely the bid. It’s the setup. Broad match keywords pull in searches for packing boxes, truck rental and driver jobs. Call ads run at midnight when nobody is at the desk. Every click lands on the homepage. After two months the owner decides Google Ads “doesn’t work for our business”, when the account was mostly paying for the wrong people.

Where mover ad budgets leak

  • Job seekers and suppliers. Searches like “packers and movers job vacancy”, “packing material wholesale” and “packers and movers franchise” all match loose keywords. Each click costs the same as a real customer.
  • Wrong location settings. A son in Lucknow searching “packers and movers delhi to lucknow” for his parents is a real lead. A person in Delhi searching for a mover in Kolkata, when you have no Kolkata service, is not. The default location option doesn’t make this distinction well.
  • Calls nobody picks up. Call ads running outside office hours, or going to a single mobile that’s busy, waste a large part of the spend in peak season.
  • Every ad sent to the homepage. Someone who searched “bike transport from bangalore to chennai” wants a bike transport page with a quote form, not your home page with a slider about corporate relocation.
  • Suspicious repeat clicks. Movers often see the same few numbers or locations clicking again and again. Google filters much of this, and we watch for the rest and exclude it where we can.

What we set up and manage

Campaigns split by intent

Local shifting in your city, intercity routes you run often, and vehicle transport each get their own campaign and budget, so a cheap local click can’t eat the money meant for a ₹40,000 intercity move.

A long negative keyword list

Jobs, franchise, boxes, cartons, tempo on rent, courier, parcel and a few hundred more, reviewed every week against the actual search terms report.

Call tracking and call schedules

Calls are tracked as conversions only if they last past a set time. Call ads run when someone is there to answer. Outside those hours, ads point to a WhatsApp or form option instead.

Landing pages for each campaign

A local shifting page, route pages and a vehicle transport page, each with a short quote form and a WhatsApp button. Where the site can’t support this, we build simple landing pages.

Ad copy built around routes and inclusions

Ads that name the route, mention what’s included (packing material, loading, unloading, transit insurance as an option) and offer a free video survey. Specific ads tend to cost less per lead than generic “safe and reliable shifting” lines, because the people who click already know what they are getting.

Booked-move tracking

Your sales team marks which leads turned into surveys and booked moves, and we feed that back into Google Ads so bidding learns from real bookings instead of form fills.

Before any of this, we sit with whoever answers your phones for half an hour. They know which calls are real, which questions come up every day and which areas you’d rather not serve. That conversation shapes the negative list and the ad schedule more than any keyword tool.

Ad copy claims to be careful with

Ads are where movers make promises they can’t keep, and those promises come back as complaints. Practical rules we follow, not legal advice:

  • If the ad says “starting ₹2,999”, that price must exist for a real move, and the landing page must explain what it covers. India’s guidelines on misleading advertisements, issued under consumer protection law, apply to online ads too.
  • Skip “100% damage free” or “zero risk”. Things do break on moves. Talk about how you pack and how claims are handled instead.
  • Write “IBA approved” only if you can show a current approval. Bank employees do search for it, and it’s easy to check.
  • Landing page forms need consent wording and a privacy note under the DPDP Act 2023, the same as your main website.

How the first months go

Month 1: account audit or fresh build, conversion and call tracking, negative lists, landing pages. Spend stays moderate while tracking is checked against your actual enquiry records.

Months 2 to 3: we cut keywords and locations that bring calls but no bookings, test ad copy around routes and inclusions, and start importing booked-move data.

Months 4 to 6: budget shifts towards the routes with the lowest cost per booked move, and we plan the moving-season increase in advance so you aren’t scrambling for budget in May.

What we report

  • Cost per qualified lead (an enquiry with a route, home size and date)
  • Cost per booked survey and, where your team records it, cost per booked move
  • Call answer rate during ad hours
  • Share of spend lost to irrelevant search terms, which should fall month by month
  • Impression share on your core local and route keywords during peak weeks

We’ll also tell you when ads aren’t the problem. Movers often find that a busy line or a slow callback, not the campaign, is what loses the booking. If half the calls go unanswered, more budget won’t fix that.

If you already run Google Ads, give us read-only access and we’ll do a free audit of the last 90 days: which searches you paid for, how many calls were missed and which routes earned their keep. You’ll get a short list of changes whether or not you hire us.

Frequently asked questions

How much budget does a mover need for Google Ads?

Enough to get a steady number of clicks on your main local and route keywords every day, otherwise the data takes months to mean anything. This varies a lot by city: a Gurgaon local campaign costs more per click than one in a tier-2 city. We look at your city, routes and average move value before suggesting a figure.

Why are our ads getting clicks but very few calls?

Common reasons are irrelevant search terms, landing pages that don’t match the search, or calls going unanswered. Sometimes the tracking is simply broken and calls are happening but not being counted. We check the search terms report, the landing pages and your call logs before changing bids.

Can we bid on other movers’ brand names?

Google allows bidding on competitor names as keywords in most cases, but you can’t use their trademarked name in your ad text if they have filed a complaint. It often brings poor leads anyway, because people searching for a specific company usually want that company. We test it carefully, if at all.

Should we use Performance Max for our moving business?

Not as a first step. Performance Max gives less control over search terms and placements, and movers already struggle with junk traffic. Once Search campaigns are tracking booked moves properly, a small Performance Max test can make sense. Without good conversion data it tends to chase cheap leads.

Can we pause ads in the off season?

You can reduce them, but we’d rarely switch them off completely. Moves still happen in the monsoon, and stopping entirely means the account loses its recent data. Cutting budget to the strongest local and route campaigns usually works better than a full pause.
