Local SEO for Packers & Movers

Last updated: October 16, 2026 Digiintern Technologies Private Limited

Local moves are booked from the map. Someone shifting from DLF Phase 3 to Sohna Road searches “packers and movers near me” or “movers in sector 49 gurgaon”, sees three listings with ratings and a call button, and rings one of them without ever opening a website. For short-distance household moves, your Google Business Profile is often the only thing a customer looks at before deciding.

Movers also have one of the messiest map categories on Google. Listings get suspended, competitors stuff their business names with keywords, and fraudsters create fake profiles using real company names to collect advance payments. A genuine mover with a real warehouse can end up below a listing that is little more than a mobile number and a pin dropped on a flyover.

Map listing problems movers run into

  • Suspended or unverified profiles. Google often asks movers for video verification. Listings set up at a co-working desk, a relative’s flat or a shop you closed two years ago tend to get suspended, sometimes right in the middle of moving season.
  • Keyword-stuffed competitor names. “Sharma Packers and Movers Cheap Shifting Service Delhi NCR” breaks Google’s naming rules, but it often ranks until someone reports it. Copying the tactic puts your own listing at risk.
  • Duplicates and fakes. An old listing an ex-employee made, a second one for the same branch, and a scam profile using your name with a different number. Customers call the wrong one and blame you.
  • Service areas set to the whole country. Some movers list every state as their service area, hoping to show up everywhere. Google ranks map listings mainly by distance and relevance, so this rarely helps, and it can make your profile look less believable to customers checking where you really work.
  • Details that don’t match across directories. Your address on Justdial, Sulekha and your own site reads three different ways, and the phone numbers on two of them stopped working years ago.

What we do on local search

  1. Audit every Google Business Profile tied to your brand, then merge duplicates, claim what’s yours and report fake profiles with evidence.
  2. Set up or correct one profile per real branch or warehouse, with your registered name, the correct primary category and a realistic service area instead of “all of India”.
  3. Prepare for video verification: signage, branded vehicles and the office or warehouse interior, filmed in the way Google asks for.
  4. Upload your own photos every month: crews packing, trucks loaded at your warehouse, the storage area. No stock images.
  5. Clean up citations on Justdial, Sulekha and other directories so your name, address and number are identical everywhere.
  6. Build a review request that your crew lead sends on WhatsApp right after unloading, with a direct link to your Google review form.
  7. Write a location page on your website for each branch, linked from its profile, with local routes, landmarks and the branch phone number.

Google’s rules and consumer protection

A suspended listing in April costs a mover more than any ranking drop, so this is where we’re strictest.

  • Use your real registered business name on the profile. Adding words like “cheap”, “no. 1” or a list of city names to it is against Google’s guidelines and a common reason for suspension.
  • List only addresses where you actually operate and where customers or staff can be found during business hours. Virtual offices and PO boxes don’t qualify.
  • Never buy reviews, swap reviews with other businesses or ask staff and relatives to post them. Fake reviews break Google’s policies and consumer protection rules in India.
  • Don’t filter who you ask. Sending the review link only to happy customers and a feedback form to unhappy ones is called review gating, and Google doesn’t allow it.
  • If you mention “IBA approved” in your profile description, have the current approval letter ready.

If you have more than one branch, each profile gets its own photos, its own reviews and its own phone number. Sharing one number across five listings makes Google and customers less sure which branch is which.

Timeline for a local SEO engagement

Month 1: profile audit, duplicate and fake listing reports, verification or reinstatement requests. Verification can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks and we can’t speed Google up, so we start here.

Months 2 to 3: directory clean-up, branch pages on your site, the WhatsApp review flow and a regular photo routine. By now most movers see their profile showing up for more nearby searches.

Months 4 to 6: we track map rankings across the sectors and neighbourhoods you serve, find where you’re weak (often areas just outside your service area) and plan the moving-season push for spring and summer.

What we track

  • Calls made directly from your Google Business Profile, by branch
  • Website clicks and WhatsApp chats started from the profile
  • Map ranking for “packers and movers” across a grid of sectors around each branch
  • New reviews per month and your average rating trend
  • How quickly reviews get a reply from your team

We also check how your profile looks from a customer’s phone every month: whether the hours are right on public holidays, whether the latest photos are your own, and whether any new duplicate has appeared. Moving companies attract more fake listings than most categories, so this check is not a one-time job.

We pay less attention to profile views. A view from someone in another state looking up your address is not a lead. A call at 9 pm from someone moving next Saturday is.

Search “packers and movers near me” from your own office, then from two sectors away, and see where you show up. If the answer is “not at all” or “below a listing that isn’t even a real company”, talk to us. We’ll run a free audit of your Google Business Profile and directory listings and tell you what’s holding you back. Call +91 96535 45560.

Frequently asked questions

Can we have a Google listing in each city we serve without an office there?

No. Google expects a real location with staff for each profile. If you move households to Pune but only have an office in Delhi, set Pune routes up on your website, not as a fake Pune listing. Fake branch listings get suspended, and a suspension can sometimes affect your genuine profile as well.

Our listing was suspended. What happens now?

First we find the likely reason: a name with extra keywords, an address problem, or a recent edit that triggered review. We fix that, gather proof such as your GST certificate, utility bill, shop photos and signage, then file a reinstatement request. Most cases take a few days to a few weeks. We don’t promise a result because the decision is Google’s.

How many reviews do we need to rank in the map results?

There’s no fixed number. Rating, how recent your reviews are, and how often you get new ones matter more than a big total from years ago. A mover getting eight to ten genuine reviews a month will usually do better than one sitting on 400 old reviews and nothing new.

Why does a mover 10 km away rank above us in our own area?

Usually because their profile is more complete, they get reviews more often, or their category and service area match the search better. Sometimes it’s because their name is stuffed with keywords. We check which of these applies and, if the competitor is breaking Google’s rules, we file a report through the proper channel.
