Search Engine Marketing for Dental Clinics

Last updated: October 16, 2026 Digiintern Technologies Private Limited

Google Ads is the fastest way for a dental clinic to appear when someone types “tooth pain dentist near me” at 9 pm, or “dental implant cost Noida” during a work break. Those are people ready to book, and paid search puts you in front of them from the first day, without waiting months for SEO.

It is also an easy way to waste money. We regularly see clinic accounts where a third of the budget goes on clicks from dental students searching “BDS admission”, job seekers looking for “dental assistant vacancy”, and people who live 25 km away. The ads send everyone to the home page, nobody tracks calls, and the clinic decides Google Ads “doesn’t work for dentists”.

Where dental Google Ads accounts lose money

  • Broad keywords with no negatives. “Dental” alone matches dental colleges, dental courses, dental insurance and dental supplies. Without a proper negative list, these clicks eat the budget.
  • Location set too wide. Targeting all of Delhi for a clinic in Rohini means paying for clicks from Saket. Patients rarely cross the city for a filling.
  • Everything goes to the home page. Someone searching for clear aligners lands on a page about general dentistry and has to hunt for the information. Each major treatment needs its own landing page.
  • No call tracking. Most dental enquiries are phone calls. If the account only counts form fills, Google’s automated bidding optimises for the wrong thing.
  • Ads running when nobody answers. Call ads shown at 11 pm when the clinic is closed simply burn money and frustrate people.

How we set up and run your dental campaigns

  1. Campaigns split by intent: urgent care (“toothache”, “broken tooth”, “swelling dentist”), high-value treatments (implants, aligners, full mouth rehabilitation) and routine care (cleaning, check-ups) only if you want more of it.
  2. A radius around the clinic, usually 5 to 8 km in a metro and wider in a tier-2 city, adjusted later based on where calls actually come from.
  3. A negative keyword list from day one: jobs, vacancy, course, college, BDS, MDS, admission, free, wholesale, supplies, and anything else the search terms report shows.
  4. Dedicated landing pages for each main treatment with the phone number, a WhatsApp button, doctor details and an honest price range.
  5. Call tracking with call assets and a forwarding number, so we can see which keywords lead to calls longer than a minute.
  6. Ad schedules matched to your clinic hours, with call ads paused when nobody can pick up.
  7. Weekly checks of search terms and monthly budget shifts toward what produces booked appointments.

What a sensible dental ads mix looks like

For a typical two-chair clinic, we would not run more than three campaigns at the start. Urgent care usually gets the steadiest share of budget because those searches turn into calls the same day. One high-value treatment, often implants or aligners, gets a separate campaign with its own landing page and a longer decision cycle. Everything else waits until the tracking shows what a patient actually costs. Spreading a small budget across ten treatments means none of them gets enough clicks to learn from, and the account never settles. We would rather prove one campaign properly than run ten badly. If you also do weekend or late evening hours, we test those slots separately, because competition for “dentist open Sunday” searches is often lower.

Google Ads policy and claims for dental advertising

Healthcare is a restricted area in Google Ads. Practical guidance, not legal advice:

  • Google’s healthcare and medicines policy restricts certain terms and treatments. Most routine dental services are fine to advertise, but ads that mention prescription drugs, such as specific anaesthetics by brand, can be disapproved.
  • Google does not allow remarketing or personalised ad targeting based on health conditions. You cannot build an audience of “people who visited the root canal page” and follow them around the web. We set up accounts to stay inside these rules.
  • Ad copy should not promise “painless” treatment, “guaranteed” results or “lowest price in Delhi” unless you can prove it. Misleading claims break Google’s policies and the Dental Council of India’s ethics code.
  • Landing page forms need a consent line under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023, and should not ask for detailed medical history.

The first six months of a dental ads account

Month 1

Account audit or fresh build, conversion tracking for calls, WhatsApp and forms, landing pages, and campaigns for your two most important treatments plus urgent care. Expect the first few weeks to be partly about learning which searches bring real patients.

Months 2 to 3

We cut keywords and locations that bring calls but no bookings, add negatives, test ad copy and adjust bids by time of day. Cost per enquiry usually settles during this period.

Months 4 to 6

With a few months of call data, we can tell you roughly what an implant enquiry or an aligner consultation costs you in ad spend. That number helps you decide whether to spend more, hold steady or shift budget into SEO.

Numbers that matter more than clicks

MetricWhy it matters for a clinic
Calls over 60 secondsShort calls are often wrong numbers. Longer calls are usually real enquiries.
Cost per enquiry by treatmentAn implant enquiry is worth paying more for than a cleaning enquiry.
Booked consultationsChecked against your front desk register, rather than Google’s numbers alone.
Search terms that waste spendShows where the budget leaks, so we can block it.

Frequently asked questions

What budget does a dental clinic need for Google Ads?

It depends on your city and treatments. Implant and aligner clicks in Delhi NCR or Mumbai cost more than in a tier-2 city. We usually suggest a starting monthly budget that allows enough calls to learn from within six to eight weeks, then adjust. You pay Google directly, and our fee is separate and stated upfront.

Should we advertise cleaning and check-ups?

Usually not as a main campaign. Routine care searches are cheap but bring low-value visits, and many come from people looking for free camps. Most clinics get a better return by advertising urgent care and high-value treatments, then building routine visits from existing patients and Google Business Profile.

Can we retarget people who visited our implant page?

No. Google’s personalised advertising policy does not allow remarketing based on health conditions or treatments. You can still reach people actively searching, and you can show general brand ads. We set up your account to follow these rules, because breaking them can get ads or the whole account restricted.

How soon will we see calls?

Usually within the first week once ads are approved. The first month is about learning which searches bring real patients and which bring wrong calls. By month three, cost per enquiry is normally steadier, and we can show which treatments are worth the spend.

Do we need a new website to run ads?

Not a full new website, but you do need focused landing pages for the treatments you advertise. Sending implant searches to a general home page wastes clicks. We can build a few landing pages on your existing site or as separate pages, with call and WhatsApp buttons.
