Search Engine Marketing for Interior Designers

Last updated: October 16, 2026 Digiintern Technologies Private Limited

When someone types “interior designer for 3bhk gurgaon” or “modular kitchen price gurgaon” into Google, they are usually close to hiring. Possession is near, the carpet area is known, and they want to compare a few studios this week. Some want design only; others want a turnkey team that handles everything down to the curtain rods. Google Ads lets an independent designer appear for those searches immediately, alongside the large platforms that spend heavily on the same terms.

Done carelessly, it is also an easy way to burn money. Interior design keywords attract students looking for courses, people searching for jobs, DIY enthusiasts and homeowners who want a complete 3BHK for a budget that would barely cover a kitchen. Most studio accounts we see run broad match keywords, send traffic to the homepage and count every phone call as a success.

Where interior designers lose money on Google Ads

  1. Searches that are not clients. “Interior design course fees”, “interior designer salary”, “free 3d room planner” and “interior designer jobs gurgaon” all match loosely set-up campaigns.
  2. Budget mismatch. Without any qualification, a large share of leads expect premium work at a fraction of what your projects cost. Your team spends days on calls that go nowhere.
  3. Generic landing pages. A homeowner searching for a modular kitchen lands on a homepage full of living room renders and leaves.
  4. Long cycles that confuse the algorithm. A project signed two months after the first click is invisible to Google unless you report it. The system then optimises for cheap calls, not clients.
  5. Ads running when nobody can answer. Calls that come in at 9 pm on a Sunday and ring out are paid clicks thrown away. Ad schedules and call extensions should match the hours someone can actually pick up.
  6. Lead forms nobody checks. Leads from Google’s lead form assets sit inside the ads account unless someone downloads them. Connecting them to email or WhatsApp means the studio sees each one within minutes.
  7. Competing on platform terms. Bidding on “full home interiors” against well-funded platforms raises costs without improving lead quality.

What we set up and run

  • Campaigns by service: full home interiors, modular kitchens, wardrobes, office fit-outs and renovation, each with its own keywords, ads and budget.
  • Location targeting at sector level: areas where your projects are and where new towers are being handed over, rather than all of Delhi NCR.
  • Negative keyword lists built for interiors: course, college, jobs, salary, freelance, software, free, DIY, PDF and more, updated from search term reports.
  • Landing pages per service: relevant projects, your process, an honest note on typical project scope and a form that captures budget band and possession date.
  • Ad copy that sets expectations: design plus execution, typical timelines and the project types you take on, so people with very different needs scroll past without clicking.
  • Call tracking and WhatsApp click tracking: so we know which keywords bring conversations, rather than clicks alone.
  • Offline conversions: site measurement visits and signed projects fed back into Google Ads from your CRM or a simple sheet.
  • Remarketing over the decision cycle: YouTube and display ads showing walkthroughs to people who visited but did not enquire, for the weeks they are still deciding.

Matching search intent to campaigns

Not every interior search deserves the same bid. A simple way to think about it:

Example searchIntentWhat we do
“interior designer for new flat gurgaon”Ready to hireBid strongly, send to full home page
“modular kitchen cost per sq ft”BudgetingBid moderately, send to kitchen page with cost factors
“living room design ideas”InspirationUsually exclude, reach through social instead
“interior design course”Not a clientAdd as negative

Inspiration searches are better served by Instagram and Pinterest. Search ads earn their money on the narrow band of people actively shortlisting, so the budget stays there.

Office fit-outs follow different logic. Searches like “office interior contractor gurgaon” come from businesses facing a lease deadline, often with larger budgets and faster decisions. They deserve their own campaign, weekday scheduling and a landing page that talks about timelines, approvals and working around operations.

Brand searches are a separate case. If a platform or competitor bids on your studio’s name, a low-cost brand campaign protects those clicks. If nobody does, you may not need one.

How the engagement runs

Month 1: account audit or new build, conversion tracking, one or two landing pages and campaigns for your most profitable services. We agree on what counts as a qualified lead. Accounts set up in a hurry often count page views as conversions, so that gets fixed first.

Months 2-3: weekly search term reviews, negatives, ad copy tests and form changes. We review lead quality with you every two weeks.

Months 4-6: add offline conversions, remarketing and new location targets, and shift budget toward services and areas with the lowest cost per site visit. Because projects take months to close, the real cost per signed project becomes clear around this stage. Many families want work finished before Diwali or a wedding, so enquiries tend to bunch up in the months before; budgets should follow those deadlines.

What we report

  • Cost per site measurement visit, the main number
  • Cost per signed project, once enough projects have closed
  • Share of leads within your target budget band
  • Calls and WhatsApp conversations by campaign
  • Spend removed each month through negative keywords
  • Cost per lead by locality, to find areas that deserve more budget
  • Remarketing reach among past visitors during the months they are still deciding

If you already run Google Ads, share read-only access and we will show you how many of last month’s clicks came from course, job and DIY searches. The audit is free, and it usually pays for itself in the first round of negatives.

Frequently asked questions

How much should an interior designer spend on Google Ads?

Enough to get meaningful data within six to eight weeks for one or two services. In NCR, clicks on interior keywords are not cheap, so a very small budget spread across many services rarely works. We would rather run one focused campaign well and expand once it brings site visits.

How do we stop getting leads with tiny budgets?

Use a form that asks for budget band and possession date, write ads that mention the scope of projects you take on, and exclude searches for cheap or free services. Some studios mention a starting project size in ad text. It reduces clicks but improves lead quality significantly.

Should we use Performance Max?

It can help with remarketing and YouTube reach, but we are careful with it for interiors because it can spend on low-quality placements and is harder to control. We usually start with search campaigns, add offline conversions, and test Performance Max only once Google has enough data on real site visits.

Why should we track signed projects in Google Ads?

Because otherwise Google optimises for whatever is easiest, usually cheap calls from people who never hire. Feeding back site visits and signed projects teaches the system what a real client looks like. It takes some discipline to update lead status, but it changes results over time.
