Someone with a 200 sq yd plot in Sohna who wants to build a house rarely knows a contractor by name. They search “building contractor near me” or “civil contractor in Sohna”, look at the three businesses in Google’s map results, read a few reviews, and call whoever looks most active. Commercial clients use maps less, but they still check whether the firm has a real office before they invite it to bid.
Construction firms get into more trouble with Google Business Profile than most local businesses. Contractors work at client sites, not at their office, so they either set the profile up wrongly or create a listing at every site they work on. Builders create listings on project land where nobody sits. Google suspends these, and sometimes the genuine office listing goes down with them.
Map-search problems specific to construction
- Listings on project sites. Google’s guidelines allow a profile for a place staffed during stated hours, such as an office or a sales gallery. An empty plot does not qualify, and a single report from a competitor can get it removed.
- Virtual office addresses. Renting a coworking address in Cyber City to look like a Gurgaon firm is one of the most common reasons for suspension we see.
- Wrong or missing categories. A firm that mostly builds homes picks “Construction company” and never adds “Home builder” or “General contractor” as secondary categories, so it misses half the searches it should match.
- Reviews from the wrong people. Staff and subcontractors leave five stars, while real clients who would gladly write a review are never asked after handover.
- Different details everywhere. One phone number on the website, another on Justdial, a third on IndiaMART. Google reads that as a business it can’t be sure about.
There’s also a timing problem. Most contractors only look at their profile when a client mentions they couldn’t find it. By then a competitor with forty reviews and weekly photos has been taking those calls for a year.
What we set up and maintain
A profile Google will keep live
Setup or recovery, including a service-area profile with the address hidden if clients never visit your office, plus the right primary and secondary categories. The business name stays exactly as it appears on your signboard and GST certificate. Stuffing “Low Cost House Construction Gurgaon” into the name is a quick route to suspension.
One profile per real location
Separate profiles only where they are genuine: head office, branch offices, and staffed sales galleries for builders. A builder with a sales gallery at Sector 102 and a corporate office in Golf Course Road can have two, each verified on its own.
Services and photos that show the work
A services list with real descriptions, for example “RCC house construction”, “PEB shed erection”, “floor addition and extension”. Alongside it, a monthly photo routine of finished projects, your team at work and the office, taken by your people rather than lifted from stock libraries. Profiles with fresh, real photos tend to get more calls than those with a logo and two renders.
Reviews at the right moment
A review request sent on WhatsApp at handover moments: possession, final bill, or the first monsoon passing without a leak. We write the message, your project manager sends it, and we track who has been asked.
Consistent citations and local pages
Cleanup of Justdial, Sulekha, IndiaMART and other citations so name, address and phone match exactly. Then town and sector pages on your website for the areas you actually cover, such as Sohna, Pataudi or Greater Faridabad, each linked from the profile and showing projects done there.
Searches we optimise for
Local construction searches are short and blunt. A few we track for contractors and builders in NCR and nearby districts:
- “house construction contractor near me”
- “civil contractor in Faridabad”
- “builder floor construction Gurgaon”
- “construction company in Karnal”
- “PEB shed contractor Neemrana”
- “[builder name] sales office”
Most “near me” searches are residential or small commercial. Large factory projects rarely start from the map pack, which is why we treat local SEO as a main channel for home builders and a supporting one for industrial contractors. On reviews, the rule is simple: never buy them, never offer discounts in exchange for them, and don’t write them yourself. Google’s policies and India’s consumer protection rules on fake reviews both cover this.
The first six months
- Month 1: Audit of every profile and listing in your name, category fixes, verification, and correction of mismatched details.
- Months 2 to 3: Photos, services, regular posts, the review request routine, and location pages on the website.
- Months 4 to 6: Steady review growth, rank tracking on a grid across your service area, and expansion into neighbouring towns.
In less crowded towns, a well-built profile can reach the map pack within weeks. In Gurgaon or Noida it can take months, and the searcher’s distance from your office still matters. No agency can change that, whatever they tell you.
We also keep an eye on edits. Google lets anyone suggest changes to a profile, and we have seen contractor listings quietly switched to the wrong phone number or marked “permanently closed”. A monthly check catches this before it costs you a season of calls.
What we measure
- Calls and website clicks from the profile.
- Direction requests to your office or sales gallery.
- Map rankings on a grid of points across your service area, not one lucky search from your own desk.
- New reviews per month and the average rating.
- Enquiries by town, so you can see which areas are worth more effort.
If your listing is suspended, duplicated or simply not showing up for “construction company near me” in your own town, ask for a free local audit. We’ll check every listing in your name and tell you what to fix first, whether we end up working together or not.
Frequently asked questions
We don’t have an office clients visit. Can we still have a Google Business Profile?
Yes. Google allows service-area businesses to hide their address and list the towns or districts they serve instead. You still need a real address for verification, and Google may ask for a video showing your signage, tools or vehicles. What you should not do is use a virtual office or a relative’s shop as your address, since that usually ends in suspension.
Can we make a separate profile for each project site?
Only if the site has a staffed sales gallery or office open during the hours you list. A construction site with only a guard and labour does not qualify. If you want each project to appear in maps, the better route is a staffed sales office with its own profile, plus project pages on your website linked from it.
How do we get more reviews without breaking rules?
Ask every client at a natural moment, such as possession or final handover, and make it easy with a direct WhatsApp link to your review form. Ask everyone, not only the happy ones. Don’t offer gifts or discounts for reviews and don’t ask staff or friends. Ten honest reviews from real clients do more than fifty that look copied.
Our listing was suspended. Can you get it back?
Often, yes, if the business genuinely meets Google’s guidelines. We find out why it was suspended, fix the cause (wrong address, keyword-stuffed name, duplicate listings), collect proof such as utility bills and signage photos, and file the reinstatement request. If the profile was never eligible, for example a listing on an empty plot, we’ll tell you plainly.
