Once a homeowner has a rough idea of the style they want, the search turns local. “Interior designer near me”, “interior designers in sector 57 gurgaon”, “modular kitchen showroom sohna road”. They want a studio close enough to visit, to touch laminates and hardware samples, and to meet the person who will be in their home for three months. Many also check how far the studio is from their new flat, since the designer will need to visit the site often. Google Maps and the Google Business Profile are where that local shortlist forms.
Interior studios often lose this step without realising it. The profile sits under the wrong category, the photos are three years old, the studio is in a residential area and the address is hidden, or there are only six reviews because the studio completes a limited number of projects each year. Each of these is fixable, but local search for interiors needs a different approach from local search for a restaurant or a clinic.
Local search challenges interior designers face
Low review volume by nature. A designer who completes 15 to 25 homes a year will never have hundreds of reviews. The answer is to ask every single client at the right moment and make each review count with detail.
Home studios and service areas. Many designers work from home or a small office not open to walk-ins. Google lets you hide the address and list service areas instead, but the setup must be correct or the profile can be suspended.
Wrong or mixed categories. We see designers listed as “Furniture store”, “Architect” or “Contractor” when the main business is interior design. The primary category shapes which searches you appear in.
Lead resellers using your name. Justdial and Sulekha may list your studio and sell enquiries to competitors. Claiming and correcting those listings keeps that traffic coming to you.
Showroom-style competitors. Modular kitchen brands and furniture showrooms rank for many of the same searches, with large stores and big review counts. A design studio cannot match their volume, so it has to win on detail: project photos, specific services and reviews that describe whole homes.
Paying for geotagged photos. Some agencies still sell geotagging of images as a ranking trick. Google strips that data on upload. Spend that money on better project photos instead.
What our local SEO work includes
- Correct profile setup: primary category “Interior designer”, relevant secondary categories, studio hours or service areas such as Gurgaon, South Delhi and Noida, and a business name without keyword stuffing.
- Project photos uploaded with care: real completed homes, organised by room, plus photos of your studio and sample library so visitors know what to expect.
- Services listed in detail: full home interiors, modular kitchens, wardrobes, false ceilings, office fit-outs and renovation, each with a short description.
- Posts about real handovers: “Handed over a 4BHK on Golf Course Extension Road” with a few photos does more than generic offers.
- A review routine built for long projects: one request at handover and a gentle follow-up after snag closure, asking clients to mention the project type and area.
- Citations that match: Houzz, Justdial, Sulekha, IndiaMART for commercial fit-out work, and design directories, all with the same name, address and phone.
- Studio visit booking: a booking link on the profile and website so homeowners reserve a slot to see samples, instead of turning up when the designer is out on site.
- Locality pages on your site: linked from the profile, showing projects in the areas you serve.
Local queries that bring interior clients
Local interior searches tend to name a place and a specific job:
- “interior designer near dlf phase 5”
- “modular kitchen designer in noida sector 150”
- “wardrobe designer near me with showroom”
- “office interior contractor udyog vihar”
- “interior designer for new flat possession gurgaon”
New possession clusters, such as Dwarka Expressway and New Gurgaon, generate waves of these searches as towers get handed over. A profile with recent project photos from those areas has a real advantage. If you work there, show it.
Watch the questions people leave on your profile as well. “Do you only do kitchens?” or “Do you work in Noida?” are signs your services and areas are not clear yet. Put each answer into the profile itself, so the next person does not need to ask.
How the work runs
Month 1: audit and fix the Google Business Profile, including verification, categories, service areas and duplicates. Claim and correct directory listings. If the studio has moved, we update the old address everywhere, since mismatched addresses are one of the most common problems in local search.
Months 2-3: upload organised project photos, write service descriptions, publish locality pages and start the review routine with recent clients.
Months 4-6: regular posts after each handover, Q&A answers, and map ranking checks across the sectors you target. Visibility in nearby areas often improves within three months. Ranking far from your studio is harder, because distance is a strong factor in local results.
What we track
- Calls and WhatsApp messages from the Google Business Profile
- Studio visit bookings and direction requests
- Site measurement requests by locality
- Map rankings in a grid across your target sectors
- Number of reviews per quarter and how many mention project details
- Profile views from locality searches compared with searches for your studio name
One more point on reviews: ask clients to mention the area and the type of work, for example “3BHK on Sohna Road” or “modular kitchen in DLF Phase 3”. Those details help other homeowners and tell Google which searches you are relevant for. Open Google Maps in a new society near you and search “interior designer”. If your studio does not show up, or it shows up with old photos and few reviews, send us your profile link. Our free local audit will list what to fix first and which areas you can realistically win.
Frequently asked questions
I work from home. Can I still have a Google Business Profile?
Yes. You can set it up as a service-area business, hide your home address and list the cities or areas you serve. You will not appear for searches far from your base as easily, but you can show up well locally. It must be set up correctly to avoid verification problems.
We only do around 20 projects a year. How can we get more reviews?
Ask every client, at handover and again once snags are closed, with a direct link and a short note suggesting what to mention. Twenty detailed reviews a year, each describing a real project, carry a lot of weight with homeowners. Never buy reviews or post them from friends.
Does geotagging our photos help ranking?
No. Google removes location data from uploaded images, so geotagging has no effect on local rankings. What helps is uploading real, recent project photos, describing them well and keeping the profile active. Studio and sample library photos also help homeowners decide to visit.
Should we list on Houzz and Justdial too?
Yes, at least claim and update those listings. Houzz is useful for design-minded clients and for links back to your site. Justdial still appears for many local searches in NCR. Consistent details across all of them help your Google profile. Paid plans are a separate decision based on lead quality.
