For B2B tech, social media mostly means LinkedIn. That is where a CFO notices a founder’s post about cutting month-end close from ten days to four, where a VP Engineering sees a teammate’s comment on a Kubernetes thread, and where an HR head clicks a carousel about attendance rules for shift workers. Nobody books a demo from one post. They see your name four or five times over a few months, and when the problem becomes urgent, you are on the shortlist.
The usual company page does not help with that. It posts “Happy Diwali” creatives, award shares, job openings and product screenshots with captions like “Excited to announce our new feature”. Engagement comes from employees. Meanwhile the company runs LinkedIn ads with a “Book a demo” offer to a cold audience of 2 lakh people and wonders why each lead costs INR 6,000 and none of them pick up.
What goes wrong with B2B tech social media
- Company page only, people silent: on LinkedIn, posts from founders and senior staff usually reach far more people than posts from a company page. A firm whose leaders never post leaves most of the reach unused.
- Asking for a demo too early: cold audiences rarely book a 45-minute call with a vendor they have never heard of. A useful guide, a benchmark report or a short webinar works better as the first offer.
- Targeting that is too wide or too narrow: “IT decision makers in India” is too broad to be useful. An account list of 40 companies is too small for LinkedIn to deliver efficiently. Most good B2B audiences sit between those.
- Content nobody in the buying group cares about: feature announcements interest existing customers. Prospects want to know how peers solved the problem.
- No link to the CRM: social leads sit in a LinkedIn lead form export that sales never sees.
What we do on social for tech companies
- Founder and expert content programme: we interview your founder, a solutions architect or a delivery head every two weeks, then write posts in their voice: lessons from projects, opinions on tools, short breakdowns of how a problem was solved. They review and post.
- Company page with a purpose: case study carousels, short product walkthrough videos, customer quotes (with permission), event and webinar promotion, and hiring posts kept to a sensible share.
- LinkedIn ads by account and role: matched audiences built from your target account list, job titles and seniority, with separate campaigns for awareness content, gated guides and demo offers to warm audiences.
- Retargeting across LinkedIn and Meta: people who visited your pricing page or watched half a product video see a case study or demo offer. Meta and Instagram can be cheaper for retargeting SMB buyers and for employer branding.
- Webinars and events: planning and promotion for webinars with a customer or partner, and content around events such as Nasscom gatherings or SaaSBoomi meetups your team attends.
- CRM sync and lead hand-off: LinkedIn lead gen forms connected to HubSpot, Zoho or Salesforce, with a rule for which leads go to sales and which go to a nurture sequence.
Choosing channels and content for your buyers
Not every tech company needs every platform. Here is how we usually split it:
- LinkedIn: main channel for enterprise and mid-market SaaS and for IT services firms selling to CXOs, in India and abroad.
- YouTube: product demos, tutorials and webinar recordings. Buyers watch these during evaluation, and they rank in Google too.
- Instagram and Facebook: useful for SMB-focused SaaS (billing, POS, school or clinic software), local IT services and employer branding. Less useful for enterprise.
- X and developer communities: worth it for developer tools and API products, where engineers discuss tools openly.
We are wary of engagement pods and comment-swapping groups. They inflate numbers on a post but the extra reach goes to other marketers, not buyers, and LinkedIn tends to discount that activity over time.
A sample month for a mid-sized HR SaaS might be: eight founder posts, four company carousels, one customer video, one webinar, and LinkedIn ads promoting a guide on new labour code payroll changes to HR heads in companies with 200 to 2,000 staff.
For IT services firms selling overseas, we adjust the timing and tone. Posts go out on US or UK mornings, case studies lead with the client’s country and industry, and the founder’s posts talk about delivery, communication and handling scope changes, which is what offshore buyers worry about most.
Engagement timeline
Month 1: audit of the company page and leaders’ profiles, target account and persona list agreed with sales, content plan for eight weeks, tracking and CRM connections set up. Paid campaigns start small, often INR 50,000 to 1 lakh a month for LinkedIn in India.
Months 2 to 3: founder posting rhythm is established, first gated asset and retargeting campaigns live, ad creatives tested in pairs. We expect to see engagement from target accounts before we see demos.
Months 4 to 6: warm audiences are large enough for demo-offer campaigns. We report which target accounts engaged, which booked meetings, and which content pieces sales found useful to share. With sales cycles of three to nine months, closed deals from social usually show up later than this.
What we measure
- Engagement and follower growth from target accounts and roles, not overall likes
- Demo requests and meetings booked from social, by campaign
- Cost per qualified lead and pipeline created, from the CRM
- Webinar registrations and attendance rate
- Reach and profile views for founder and expert accounts
- Retargeting audience size, which shows whether awareness work is building
If your LinkedIn page mostly gets likes from your own team, ask us for a free social audit. We will review your page, two leaders’ profiles and any recent ad campaigns, and suggest a 30-day content plan built around the questions your buyers actually ask. Call +91 96535 45560.
Frequently asked questions
Do LinkedIn ads work for SaaS companies in India?
They can, but costs per click are high, so the offer and targeting must be sharp. Cold audiences respond better to a useful guide or webinar than a demo. Demo campaigns do better on retargeted or engaged audiences. Judge results by pipeline in your CRM, not by cost per lead.
Our founder does not want to post. Does that matter?
It limits reach, because personal posts on LinkedIn usually travel further than company page posts. If the founder is unwilling, another senior person such as a CTO or delivery head can do it. We interview them and write drafts, so it takes about an hour every two weeks.
Is Instagram useful for B2B tech?
For SMB-focused software, local IT services and hiring, yes. Small business owners use Instagram heavily, and Meta retargeting is cheaper than LinkedIn. For enterprise SaaS or offshore development services, it is a secondary channel and mainly useful for employer branding.
How do you track social leads when deals take months to close?
We connect lead forms and website forms to your CRM with the source recorded, and track target-account engagement as an early signal. When a deal closes six months later, the report can still show social as a touchpoint. We report pipeline and meetings monthly, revenue as deals close.
