In B2B software, reviews do a lot of selling before your sales team ever gets a call. A buyer shortlisting HR software opens G2 and Capterra, filters by company size, and reads the three-star reviews to see what goes wrong. A US founder choosing an offshore development partner checks Clutch and GoodFirms for verified client interviews. Then they search your company name with “reviews” and “complaints” and see what Google, Reddit and Glassdoor say.
Many tech companies leave this to chance. They have a handful of reviews from 2021, a profile on G2 they never claimed, and a Glassdoor page full of angry ex-employees that shows up on page one for their brand. Or they swing the other way and run a gift card campaign that floods a profile with short, similar five-star reviews, which review platforms and buyers both treat with suspicion.
Reputation issues tech companies face
- Stale or missing review profiles: your G2 page has eight reviews and the latest is three years old, while a competitor has 200 recent ones. Buyers read that as momentum, or the lack of it.
- Reviews that describe an old product: complaints about a feature you fixed two releases ago keep appearing first on the page, with no reply explaining the change.
- Employer reviews mixed with client trust: negative Glassdoor or AmbitionBox reviews about appraisals rank for your brand name. Enterprise buyers do look, especially for long services contracts where staff churn affects delivery.
- Public outage or support complaints: a downtime incident leads to angry threads on X or Reddit. Without a status page and a clear public response, those threads become the record.
- Services firms without verified proof: an IT services company claims dozens of projects, but Clutch shows no verified reviews, so overseas buyers cannot check anything.
How we manage reputation for IT and SaaS firms
- Review platform audit and set-up: claiming and completing profiles on G2, Capterra, GetApp, Software Advice, Clutch, GoodFirms and Google, with accurate categories, pricing, screenshots and integration lists.
- Customer review programme: a process that asks customers for reviews at sensible moments, such as after onboarding is complete, after a renewal, or after a services milestone, with links to the right platform for that buyer.
- Clutch verified review support: coordinating client calls or forms for services firms, so overseas buyers see interviews with real project contacts.
- Reply playbook: response templates for critical reviews that acknowledge the issue, explain what changed, and invite the reviewer to support, written for product, support and delivery teams to use.
- Brand search management: making sure your own pages, status page, security page, case studies and leadership profiles rank for your brand name, so a single forum thread does not define you.
- Employer reputation basics: reply guidelines for Glassdoor and AmbitionBox, and a careers page that answers common candidate concerns honestly. We do not remove or suppress genuine employee reviews.
We work closely with customer success on this, because they know which accounts are healthy and when a customer has just had a good experience. Marketing sending review requests to an account with an open escalation is a quick way to get a one-star review, so we agree a simple check before every batch.
Review platform rules to respect
B2B review platforms take review integrity seriously, and a breach can get your profile flagged or reviews removed in bulk. Practical points we follow, not legal advice:
- G2 and Capterra each have their own policies on incentives. Where small incentives are allowed, they are usually run through the platform’s own programme and disclosed on the review. Read each platform’s current rules before offering anything.
- Never write reviews for customers, use employees or partners as reviewers, or ask only your happiest accounts.
- Google reviews must not be incentivised at all.
- In India, the Consumer Protection Act and CCPA guidance treat fake or paid reviews as unfair trade practice. Many buyers are businesses, but the principle still applies on public platforms.
- Get customer permission before quoting a review on your website or in sales decks, especially for enterprise clients with confidentiality clauses.
How an engagement runs
Month 1: audit of review platforms, brand search results for your company and product names, and employer review sites. We agree which two or three platforms matter most for your buyers, set up profiles and build the review request process with customer success.
Months 2 to 3: review requests go out to customers in batches, replies are posted to existing unanswered reviews, and trust pages (security, status, changelog) are published or improved. New reviews start arriving, usually a few each month at first.
Months 4 to 6: profiles show recent, detailed reviews, your owned pages rank higher for brand searches, and sales start using review quotes (with permission) in proposals. Older negative results move down slowly. Some may remain, and the honest reply under them becomes your answer to every buyer who finds them.
Reviews also feed back into the product. We share a short monthly summary of recurring complaints and praise with your product and support leads, because a pattern in reviews is often the first public sign of a usability problem.
What we measure
- New reviews per month on each target platform, and average rating
- Review recency: share of reviews from the last 12 months
- Response rate and time on critical reviews
- Page one results for your brand name and brand plus “reviews”
- Deals where prospects mention reading reviews, captured by sales in the CRM
- Clutch verified reviews completed, for services firms

Frequently asked questions
Which review platforms matter most for a SaaS company?
For most B2B SaaS, G2 and Capterra (with its sister sites GetApp and Software Advice) are where buyers compare products. Google reviews matter for brand searches. Pick the two or three platforms your buyers mention on sales calls and focus there rather than spreading thin across all of them.
Can we offer gift cards for reviews?
On Google, no. On B2B platforms like G2 and Capterra, small incentives may be allowed through their own programmes with disclosure, but rules differ and change. Check each platform’s current policy, offer the same thing to every reviewer regardless of rating, and never ask only happy customers.
How do we handle a bad Glassdoor rating that shows up in brand searches?
Reply to reviews professionally and without arguing, fix the issues that keep recurring, and encourage current staff to share honest feedback. Make sure your careers page and leadership profiles rank for your brand. We will not suppress genuine reviews, and trying to do so usually makes things worse.
Is Clutch worth it for an Indian IT services company?
If you sell to US, UK or Australian buyers, often yes. Many of them check Clutch or GoodFirms during vendor selection, and verified client interviews carry weight. For services sold mainly within India, referrals, LinkedIn and Google reviews usually matter more.
