Local SEO for Dental Clinics

Last updated: October 16, 2026 Digiintern Technologies Private Limited

Most new dental patients come from within a few kilometres of the clinic. When someone searches “dentist near me” or “dental clinic in Sector 49”, Google shows a map with three clinics, and a large share of people tap one of those three without scrolling further. For a single-location clinic, those three slots matter more than almost anything else you can do online.

What usually goes wrong is simple. The Google Business Profile was claimed years ago by a former receptionist, the category is set to “Medical clinic” instead of “Dentist”, the hours do not show Sunday half-days, and the phone number on Justdial is a mobile that nobody answers any more. Meanwhile a competitor with a keyword-stuffed name like “Smile Dental Clinic Implant Centre Gurgaon Sector 50” sits in the map pack above you.

Local search problems we see at dental clinics

  • Wrong or incomplete profile. Primary category, secondary categories such as orthodontist or cosmetic dentist, services, attributes and the appointment link are often missing. Google relies on these to decide which searches you appear for.
  • Inconsistent details everywhere. The clinic is “Dr Mehta’s Dental Care” on Google, “Mehta Dental Clinic” on Practo and has an old address on Justdial after a move to the next building. Mixed signals weaken your local ranking.
  • Few or stale reviews. A clinic with 40 reviews, the newest from last year, struggles against one getting fresh reviews every week. Patients notice the dates too.
  • Spam competitors. Fake listings at residential addresses and names stuffed with keywords break Google’s guidelines. They can be reported, but most clinics do not know how.
  • Map pin in the wrong place. In dense markets like Lajpat Nagar or Koramangala, a pin placed one lane off sends patients to the wrong building and earns you an angry review.

Our local SEO work for a dental practice

  1. Google Business Profile clean-up. Correct primary and secondary categories, a full list of treatments as services, accurate hours including holidays, an appointment link, real photos of the clinic exterior so people can find the entrance, and a description written for patients rather than for keywords.
  2. Doctor listings where they make sense. Google allows individual practitioner profiles. For a clinic with one main dentist, a single clinic profile is usually better. For a practice with a visiting orthodontist and an endodontist, we help decide what to list and how, so you do not split your reviews.
  3. Citation clean-up. We make your name, address and phone number match exactly across Practo, Justdial, Lybrate, Sulekha, Bing Places, Apple Maps and local directories, and remove or merge duplicates.
  4. A steady review routine. A short WhatsApp message with your review link, sent after a completed treatment, plus a reply template your staff can personalise. No incentives and no fake reviews.
  5. Google posts and Q&A. Short updates about Sunday timings, a new orthodontist joining or a school dental check-up week, and answers to common questions like parking and payment options.
  6. Spam reporting. Where competitors use fake addresses or stuffed names, we file the Google redressal form with evidence. It does not always work quickly, but it often does.
  7. A locality page on your website that matches the profile, with directions, landmarks and the areas you serve.

The searches that matter for a neighbourhood clinic

Local dental searches are short and urgent. A sample of the kind of queries we map for a single clinic in Gurgaon:

  • “dentist near me open now”
  • “dental clinic in DLF Phase 3”
  • “tooth pain doctor near me”
  • “kids dentist near Golf Course Road”
  • “dentist open on Sunday Gurgaon”
  • “braces doctor near me”

Two points about these. First, “open now” and “Sunday” searches depend heavily on accurate hours, so a profile that shows you closed on Sunday when you are open 10 to 2 loses that patient. Second, children’s dentistry and orthodontics are worth adding as services even if they are a small share of your work, because parents search for them specifically. One compliance note: profile descriptions and posts should not promise “painless” treatment or guaranteed results, and photos of patients need their consent.

Timeline for local SEO

Weeks 1 to 4

Access and ownership of the profile sorted out (this alone can take time if an old staff member owns it), categories and services corrected, photos added and the first citation fixes made.

Months 2 to 3

Remaining citations cleaned, review routine running, regular posts and spam reports filed. Most clinics see more profile views and direction requests in this period.

Months 4 to 6

Map pack position becomes more stable as reviews build up. Distance still matters a lot: a clinic in Sector 14 will rarely rank for someone searching in Sector 82, and nobody can change that. We focus on the area you can realistically serve.

One honest warning: if your clinic recently moved or changed its name, expect a dip before things improve. Google re-verifies the new details and older citations take time to update. Plan the change with us before you put up new signage, not after.

Numbers we track

  • Calls from the Google Business Profile.
  • Direction requests, which are a good sign that people intend to visit.
  • Website clicks and appointment link clicks from the profile.
  • Map pack position for 10 to 15 local searches, checked from several points around the clinic rather than from one spot.
  • Number of new reviews per month and your average rating trend.

We also ask your front desk a simple question every month: how many new patients said they found you on Google? It is not precise, but it catches calls that tracking misses.

Want to know where your clinic actually appears on the map? We will run a free local audit: we check your Google Business Profile, look at your listings on Practo and Justdial, and test your map position from different streets around you. You get a short list of fixes in order of priority, and you can decide whether to do them in-house or with us. Ring us on +91 96535 45560 or drop a line to info@digiintern.com with your clinic name and area.

Frequently asked questions

Why does a competitor further away rank above us on Google Maps?

Distance is only one factor. Google also looks at how relevant the profile is (categories, services, description) and how prominent it is (reviews, citations, website). A clinic with a complete profile and steady reviews can outrank a closer clinic with a thin one. Sometimes the competitor is breaking guidelines, which can be reported.

Should each dentist in our clinic have their own Google profile?

It depends. For a single-dentist clinic, one clinic profile is usually the right call. With several dentists, individual practitioner profiles can help patients search by doctor, but reviews then get split. We look at your team and patient flow before recommending either setup, and we follow Google’s guidelines on practitioner listings.

Can we offer patients a discount for leaving a review?

No. Google’s policies prohibit incentives for reviews, and consumer protection rules in India treat paid or incentivised reviews as misleading. Simply asking satisfied patients after a completed treatment, with a direct link on WhatsApp, works well and keeps you safe.

Our profile was suspended. Can you help?

Often, yes. Suspensions usually happen after an address change, a name edit or a reported issue. We check what triggered it, fix the profile details, collect proof such as signage photos and a utility bill, and file a reinstatement request. It can take a few days to a few weeks.
