When someone needs a hospital nearby, Google Maps is usually where they look. “Hospital near me”, “24 hour emergency near me”, “orthopaedic hospital in Sector 44 Noida”, “multispeciality hospital Hisar”. The map results show phone numbers, hours, ratings and directions, and in an emergency many people call straight from there without ever opening a website.
For hospitals, local listings are messier than for any other business. One building might have a main hospital listing, a separate emergency department listing, a pharmacy, a diagnostic lab, an IVF centre and forty doctors who each have their own profile, some created by Google automatically and some by the doctors themselves. Half of them carry an old switchboard number. And in an emergency, a wrong number or a map pin at the wrong gate is more than a marketing problem. It can delay care.
Local search problems hospitals run into
- Duplicate and unclaimed listings. Google often has several listings for the same hospital, created over the years by staff, patients or old agencies. Reviews and calls get split between them.
- Emergency details wrong. The listing shows OPD hours of 9 to 5 for a hospital whose casualty is open around the clock, so Google tells people it is closed at night.
- Doctor profiles out of control. Individual doctor listings that point to the hospital address remain long after the doctor leaves, sending patients to someone who no longer works there.
- Wrong phone numbers on directories. Justdial, Sulekha and old portals still carry a number from before the hospital moved to a call centre, and nobody answers it.
- Branch confusion. In a group with branches in Gurgaon, Faridabad and Rewari, patients searching in one city sometimes see the other branch’s listing first, with the wrong address.
How we fix a hospital’s local presence
- A full listing inventory: every Google profile connected to your hospital, branches and doctors, plus Bing Places, Apple Maps, Practo, Justdial and major health directories.
- Claiming and merging. We claim profiles you own, request merges or removal of duplicates and set up a clear ownership structure so the profiles stay with the hospital, not with an individual employee.
- Department listings where Google’s guidelines allow them, such as a separate emergency department or a diagnostic centre with its own hours and entrance, so people find the right service directly.
- Correct categories and hours for each listing. The main hospital, emergency, pharmacy and lab often have different hours and should show them.
- Map pin and entrance accuracy, checked on site in Delhi NCR or via photos elsewhere, with photos of the main gate and emergency entrance so ambulances and families find the right one.
- Doctor practitioner listings handled carefully: kept accurate for current consultants, and updated or marked properly when a doctor leaves.
- Branch landing pages on your website that match each Google profile, with that branch’s departments, doctors and directions.
Local searches a hospital should own
Hospital local searches range from urgent to planned. A sample we would map for a multispeciality hospital in a tier-2 city:
- “hospital near me” and “emergency hospital near me open now”
- “ICU hospital in Panipat”
- “maternity hospital near me”
- “cashless hospital near me” for policyholders checking their network
- “child specialist hospital in Karnal”
- “dialysis centre near me”
Each needs a listing, category or service entry that matches. Compliance applies here too: listing descriptions and posts should not claim “guaranteed” outcomes, accreditations should only appear for locations that hold them, and photos should not show patients without consent.
Reviews across many listings
A hospital with ten listings has ten places where reviews collect, and patients rarely know which one to use. We decide with you where reviews should go: usually the main hospital profile and each branch, with department listings collecting their own reviews only where they are clearly separate, such as the emergency department. Review links are then shared at the right point, for example at discharge for inpatients and at the billing counter for OPD visits. Replies follow the same privacy rules as everywhere else: no confirmation that the reviewer was a patient, and no clinical details in public. This keeps reviews concentrated on the listings that actually decide map rankings, instead of scattered across profiles nobody checks.
Timeline for hospital local SEO
Month 1
Inventory, ownership and access. This often takes longer than expected for hospitals because listings may be owned by former staff or old agencies. Emergency hours and phone numbers are fixed first.
Months 2 to 3
Duplicate merges, department and branch listings set up, doctor listings cleaned, directory citations corrected and a review routine started at discharge and OPD billing.
Months 4 to 6
Regular posts for health camps and new services, monitoring of edits suggested by the public, which can change your hours or phone number without warning, and steady improvement in map visibility for department searches.
What we track at branch level
- Calls from each Google profile, split between emergency and OPD numbers where possible.
- Direction requests per branch.
- Map pack visibility for department searches around each branch.
- Reviews and average rating for each branch and key departments.
- Number of listings fixed, merged or removed, so you can see the clean-up progress.
For hospital groups we present this by branch, because a strong Gurgaon branch can hide a weak Faridabad one in combined figures.
Not sure how many Google listings carry your hospital’s name? Most hospitals are surprised by the number. Frequently asked questions
Can our emergency department have its own Google listing?
Google’s guidelines allow departments within hospitals to have separate listings in some cases, especially when they have distinct hours, entrances or contact numbers, as emergency departments often do. We check your setup against the current guidelines, then create or correct the listing so emergency details are shown clearly and accurately.
What happens to a doctor’s Google listing when they leave?
If the profile is owned by the hospital, it can be updated or marked as moved. If the doctor owns it, they control it, but the hospital address and phone should not remain on it. We help you request corrections through Google’s processes and keep a list of practitioner listings tied to your hospital.
Why does Google show the wrong hours for our hospital?
Often because the listing uses OPD hours, or because a member of the public suggested an edit that Google accepted. Hospitals with 24×7 emergency services should mark the correct hours and use department listings where needed. We also monitor listings so unwanted edits are caught and reversed.
We have five branches. Do we need separate profiles for each?
Yes. Each physical branch should have its own verified profile with its own address, phone number, hours and photos, and a matching branch page on your website. Sharing one profile across branches confuses Google and sends patients to the wrong location.
